Is Disneyland Paris Worth It?
Is Disneyland Paris really the happiest place on Earth?
We spent three nights at the Sequoia Lodge at Disneyland Paris in April during the school holidays. I figure we paid about 300chf per night with breakfast and either lunch or dinner included. We were given a stack of vouchers when we checked in as well as tickets to enter the park for four days. Breakfast and either lunch or dinner were included, if we could find the right restaurant in the park that allowed our voucher.
How should we spend our holiday vacation money? Living in the center of Europe as an American and South African, do we want to spend our money on Disneyland to show our children the world, a world full of commercialism, or do we want to actually show them the world? For me, The Lion King song (ironically) always comes into my head and I cry to the words that there is more to see than can ever be seen and more to do than can ever be done. It’s a bit too big of a song for me, realizing that I won’t get to see the whole world, but that’s a story for another day.
Disneyland Paris Sequoia Lodge Half Board Included
Included in our Sequoia Lodge Half Board, which we booked online, was admission to Disneyland for 4 days for 1 adult and 2 children (my husband opted out of this leg of our Spring holiday), Sequoia Lodge for three nights, and half board (which was breakfast and either lunch or dinner at specific restaurants). I can’t even imagine what a nightmare it must be to stay outside of Disneyland Paris and take the train in, wait in the line, then wait in the line for each ride. Maybe staying outside the park is better for a more authentic Paris holiday and perhaps only one day at Disneyland?
The Best Part About Disneyland Paris
We had a wonderful time at Disneyland Paris, if I’m honest. Not because of Disneyland, but because we traveled with our friends from California with their two girls our girls same age. My friend bought four of the cutest matching outfits at H&M for our girls to wear. And they did wear the outfits and had a blast matching. The girls also loved swimming in the Sequoia Lodge pool each night. I think our girls would have had a blast anywhere we went, as they did on our week prior in Amsterdam.
How We Got To Disneyland Paris
We took the train from our holiday in Amsterdam to Paris. Once we got to Paris we took the train to Disneyland. The trains are pretty straight forward and easy to buy tickets. At the end of our holiday we took a flight from Paris to Zürich. When we priced out the holiday, this was the cheapest way to go.
My Honest Thoughts On Disneyland
Disneyland is not my dream travel destination. I would rather explore a new city in Europe, try new food, holiday with friends, or visit family. Visiting a fabricated town with long lines, overpriced food, and a convoluted scheme on where and when to eat sounds like a nightmare.
Our three night stay at Disneyland Paris, staying in the Sequoia Lodge Disneyland hotel with half board was 900chf, or 300chf a night. It does not sound horrible, but we were not getting any culture from the holiday, we were inside a theme park. I believe, living in the heart of Europe, there are so many other holidays we can spend far less money on and learn so much more about our new adopted home of Switzerland and our neighboring countries.
How do you feel about Disneyland? I feel like a terrible mom admitting that I actually dread it. But my children never ask to go and are not obsessed with the thought of Disneyland. We don’t watch commercials and I’m not sure if any of their friends go to Disneyland. Our neighbors seem to go on ski holidays and to tropical islands rather than Disneyland. But everyone’s dream vacation is different.
How do you spend your holiday money?
