My 8 Month Old Baby
My Baby
My baby is 8 months old! I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by. He is such a happy baby, his sisters love him to pieces, and we couldn’t be happier that we were lucky enough to add him to our family. This month we swam and enjoyed cooling off in Lake Zürich during the Swiss summer heat wave.
Travel
We relaxed at home and the girls had school this month. After 3 weeks in South Africa and Mauritius it is nice to just stay home and rest.
Teething
No teeth. My girls got their teeth at 9 months so I’m assuming they’ll show up in the next few months.
Crawling
Oh goodness this little belly crawler of mine. He is absolutely adorable doing the full belly crawl.
Sleeping
He loves to sleep, always has. My friends gave me the book by Gina Ford, Contented Little Baby, where I know when to put him down for a nap and when to give him a bottle. It has made an amazing little baby even better. Since he was a couple weeks old I’ve had this book close by just because he was so much more of a formula baby than my girls. I was worried I would forget his bottle times or nap times, so I checked this book, and added alarms to my phone to remind me when a bottle or nap was coming up. With the girls I mainly breastfed on demand. And by 8 months I was already back at work full-time and the girls were in full-time daycare at this age.
He sleeps 7pm-7am and takes two naps, one from 9-10am and one from 1-3pm.
Eating
Until now, he has not been interested in eating. He does love to try to grab my cappuccino, but otherwise it’s all about the bottle for him. This month we tried some baby porridge and he liked it. He isn’t obsessed with it, but he liked it. I’ve heard it’s fun until they are one. Meaning, food is primarily breast milk/formula until they are a year old, then it’s full on eating solids.
Pediatrician
No doctor visits in the 8th month here in Switzerland. His next pediatrician appointment will be next month when he is 9 months old.
Next Month
The 9 month check up and our summer holidays where we will take the train to Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, and Salzburg.
And Me, The Mom, And My Hormones
Finally, now that my third baby is 8 months old, I went to see some doctors about the strange symptoms I have been feeling since I gave birth. I went to see my regular doctor and get my blood checked. I was feeling very out of balance, emotional, sweaty, anxious, unable to fly, way too emotional, but in an elated happy and crying kind of way. Basically, I had been feeling this way for months, but kept putting it off as things that happen after you have a new baby. But I finally went. And I went to everyone.
The first doctor said I had low iron and low potassium. I have never had low iron. Not during my three pregnancies, not when I was fully vegetarian, not ever. So the doctor put me on iron pills for three months and I will get my blood checked again after the three months. Also, for the anxiety I am having, she gave me anxiety pills to take if and when I feel anxious. She gave me a referral to a psychologist.
The psychologist said I needed my hormones checked. I went to my gynecologist and got my blood taken again, but for my hormones. The results finally were that I had no estrogen and that I was fully in menopause. The gynecologist thinks this is very strange so they started me on estrogen gel. I put the gel on my stomach a few times a week. I need to go back for more blood tests in two months. They said that all of my symptoms will go away within a few days or weeks of this estrogen gel.
Has anyone gone through menopause at 39 years old? Has anyone used estrogen gel? I’d love to hear how you are doing and what you are experiencing with your hormones. It seems like there is so much unknown out there, it would be nice to share our experiences. Why don’t we talk about menopause?
