My Pregnancy Week 27
Getting Pampered at The Nail Bar
In week 27 of my pregnancy I pampered myself. I went to The Nail Bar in the Niederdorf in old town Zürich and got a manicure and pedicure. Two hours later, I had wonderfully soft hands and feet. Last month when my girlfriend was visiting us from San Francisco with her newborn baby boy, she and I popped into The Nail Bar for pedicures after brunch at Cafe Peclard im Schober. We just walked in without an appointment! The Nail Bar is in the perfect location next to Schwartzenbach and Cafe Schober.
The Nail Bar still has Swiss prices as you would expect. But I figure, in Zürich, for 2 hours of work, I paid my bar maid (what? bar maid?) Jessica 129.80 francs for a pedicure and a gel manicure. Not horrible for Zürich. (Please don’t write to me from the USA about the prices for manicures and pedicures. I’m sensitive in my 7th month of pregnancy and can’t take how cheap you got your last manicure pedicure for. OK, nevermind, tell me.)
For more information and to call to book an appointment, here is the website. There are 14 locations, with most in the French speaking part of Switzerland. But the Zürich location is just perfect for a girlfriend brunch and pedicure. The staff is very friendly as well.
Visitors to Zürich
Besides my morning of indulgent pampering, week 27 of my pregnancy has seen my mother in law leave for South Africa and my neighbor and very wonderful friend from Seattle come visit. My friend’s two girls are the same age as my two girls. We met in the hospital after birth support group the hospital sets you up with when you have a baby. So our first girls have known each other literally their entire life. I miss this family so much and all the summer BBQ’s we used to have. Our girls all potty trained together. All the memories.
Day Trips From Zürich
We finally made it out of Zürich for the weekend. With all the end of school activities and a few of us getting sick, we have stayed in town on the weekends. But we finally did our very favorite day trip with visitors on Sunday, The Golden Round Trip. This includes every mode of transportation and takes a full day to complete. We took a train, boat, cogwheel train (the steepest in the world), gondola, bus, and train home. The views from the top of Mount Pilatus are absolutely spectacular. There is also a ropes course, toboggan, zip line, and wonderful playgrounds along the way.
Coming Up in Week 28
We have a doctor’s appointment coming up this week. We are also touring our first hospital! And, my Dad and his friends are coming to Zürich for a visit! It’s a busy and wonderful summer here in Switzerland. Until then, we will be relaxing at the badi this week with our visitors.
