My Pregnancy Week 32
My pregnancy is now in week 32, so we officially have 8 weeks left before we get to meet this baby! We had a doctor’s appointment this week, and since the girls were on summer holiday, we all went together as a family.
Doctor Appointment
The girls loved seeing the baby on the ultrasound monitor and hearing the heartbeat, which the doctor said sounded like horses. The appointment was uneventful which is great news. The baby is still sucking their thumb and moving all the time. I don’t remember the girls moving in my tummy. I only remember them having hiccups a handful of times, but not moving like this one. At each appointment the baby has been positioned with its head down. I think it will be early, but the doctor thinks if the first two were induced at 40 weeks then this baby is not coming out early.
Midwife Thoughts Updated
I now think the midwife idea is fantastic. Friends mentioned how in the USA, there is no aftercare and women are having a very tough time after having a baby and leaving the hospital without the right tools to take care of themselves and their baby. So now I feel grateful and lucky that Switzerland’s basic health care insurance provides 10 midwife visits, some in the hospital and some at our home once we leave the hospital. I need to either call our insurance for a midwife, ask our hospital where we are delivering, or use the name my friends gave me of their midwife. So far I emailed the hospital and will see what they say.
Back To School
The girls started school today and I can’t wait to hear about their day. Everything feels so easy and relaxed as it’s only the first day. One of the amazing things about Switzerland is that the kids walk to and from school on their own. This is amazing time they get with their neighbors and friends or peaceful time on their own discovering their surroundings. The independence, starting at age 4, is amazing in this age of cell phones, big cars, and social media. Plus, it’s so easy to get them ready in the morning when I’m not rushing around as well. I’m so glad I don’t need to drive them everywhere and go to the school gates like we did in London or inside like we did at daycare in Seattle.
What’s Next?
With the school year starting, we didn’t venture anywhere except the badi (swimming) this week. It was an absolutely hot and gorgeous week so we planted ourselves on the lake the whole week all day every day to squeeze out the last of the summer.
My next doctor’s appointment is in two weeks when I’ll be 34 weeks! It’s funny how fast and slow pregnancy goes by. I need to start getting the baby’s room ready, washing the clothes we have been given by our friends, and maybe even buying diapers! (I always ordered the girl’s diapers from Amazon, I wonder what the best option is here) The thing I’m most excited about is packing a hospital bag. For some reason, with the girls, I never had a hospital bag and we just showed up at the hospital without anything. Both times, when we had our 40 week appointment, the doctor told us to go straight to the hospital to induce the birth, so I’ve never prepared any hospital bag. I’m quite excited to pack pajamas, slippers, a robe, and an outfit for the baby!
What is a necessity to have in a hospital bag?
