My Pregnancy Week 35
We took a train to Lake Como for the long three-day weekend (Knabenschiessen) during my pregnancy week 35. With only 5 more weeks until we meet this baby, we had another monthly doctor’s appointment. And, the weather has now changed from summer to officially autumn with rain, sweaters, and a pumpkin patch in our future.
My Doctor’s Appointment
We all went to our week 35 appointment together. The ultrasound looked normal and the baby seems to be 2.3kg the doctor said. He says the baby is completely normal sized. The girls love hearing the baby’s heartbeat as the doctor says it’s the sound of horses every time to the girls and we all laugh. Our next appointment is in 3 weeks. Goodness. The appointments are so spread out still. He definitely doesn’t think this baby is coming out early. Both girls had to be induced on their due date, 40 week appointment, as the doctor in the USA said my placenta had calcified and there wasn’t enough liquid to wait any longer. So I would assume the third baby would have the same problem at 40 weeks. But who knows, right?
Fill Out The Paperwork!
So we are about a month from meeting this baby and we still haven’t turned in our hospital registration or the midwife registration. Third baby! Good thing the baby isn’t early! My husband is filling out the hospital forms today and I’m sending in the midwife paperwork.
Baby Shower
I’m so excited, grateful, and thankful in anticipation of my neighbor’s throwing me a baby shower tomorrow! It’s just about the sweetest thing anyone has done for us since moving to Zürich. I can’t believe a bunch of lovely women friends of mine are all getting together to celebrate this third baby of ours and welcoming the baby to the neighborhood. We are so lucky to live on this amazing street with these friendly families that take care of each other. Also, other neighbors have given us their old clothes which I’m so thankful for. With so many kids in our area there are lots of used baby clothes to go around. I’m also excited to see what a Swiss baby shower will be like.
Lake Como
We had such a wonderful three-day weekend in the tiny village of Cernobbio on Lake Como. I booked this little house right in the middle of town. It was a beautifully decorated house right next to the town church and seconds from the bakery and restaurant (with kid’s nook) we went to each day. The Cernobbio ferry terminal was about a 2 minute walk. And one of the two playgrounds in Cernobbio, next to the ferry terminal, is also a 2 minute walk. The girls loved going to the playground and carousel when the weather cooperated.
The weather was absolutely awful in Lake Como. The lake was so stormy, full of waves, rain, and windy. We took the ferry to Como two of the three days, but we were hoping to take the Sunday steamboat around the lake, but the weather was just too terrible. Instead, we had the most relaxing weekend. We would wake up and go to the bakery. Then rest at home for a bit and then venture out for lunch. After an afternoon rest and another trip to the bakery, we headed to a restaurant for dinner. Sometimes the most relaxing holidays are the ones where the best laid plans are left undone. I think we all caught up on the sleep we needed and ate really yummy Italian food all together.
Coming Up
We have the girls parent’s night at school this week where we learn the curriculum for the school year. I also want to go see one of the cow parades this weekend. Here’s my post from the cow parade we went to last year. And finally, we are going to do some pumpkin carving to celebrate autumn and all the gorgeous squash that are now in season. And I have to be honest, I’m really enjoying this rainy autumn weather after the long summer. I still need to pack my hospital bag, maybe I’ll wait until after the baby shower tomorrow.
