My Pregnancy Week 37
We are so close to having this baby now that we are at week 37 of my pregnancy. With only days until we meet this baby, I got sick, we went for a doctor’s appointment, and went for one last weekend away.
Back To School Cold
I got a back to school cold from one of my girls this week and was out on the sofa all week sick. After drinking tons of hot lemon and honey water, I’m finally starting to feel better. But goodness these colds linger longer now.
Doctor Appointment
So I freaked out a bit with my cold and moved my doctor’s appointment up a week. So we went to check on the baby and make sure everything is still looking ok. I’ve been a bit worried as both girls were induced in a rushed manner at their 40th week check ups as they did not have any amniotic fluid left and my placenta had calcified. So I keep worrying that is happening this time as well. But everything looks good and I have another appointment next week at 38 weeks!
Weekend Away
We went for one last weekend away before the baby comes this weekend to Locarno. It was an absolutely gorgeous weekend with amazing weather as usual for the canton of Ticino, where everything is Italian, the food is good, service is fantastic, and palm trees are everywhere. We took the train to Locarno, which is a gorgeous 2 1/2 hour train ride from Zürich.
We went to Locarno on Easter Sunday this year and here is my post from that day trip. I just looked through all the pictures from Easter and it was such a gorgeous day! This region does not disappoint.
Cardada Cimetta was the first thing we did on Saturday morning, taking the funicular from the center of Locarno, then a gondola, and then a sideways chair lift to an epic lookout from which we could see the highest and lowest points of Switzerland at a glance. The lowest point is Lake Maggiore and the highest is Monte Rosa. There is so much to see and do for families on this little journey up the mountain. There are playgrounds and hikes and plenty of restaurants.
In the afternoon we went to the Locarno Lido for a swim. We ate lunch at the family friendly Blu restaurant which includes a full kids menu as well as an enclosed kids play area. The restaurant is very nice, there was a wedding happening when we were there!
Lido Locarno is an amazing swimming facility that also houses the Blu Restaurant. There are indoor and outdoor pools with a large grassy lakefront, playgrounds, large slide, and kid pools. This is definitely a must see when in Locarno. There is also a Thermal Spa section which would be wonderful as a day date or girl’s day out while the kids go to the Lido.
We stayed at the Hotel Belvedere Locarno which was very nice. The girls loved the indoor/outdoor pool. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant the first night which was very nice, as were the morning buffet breakfasts. There was beach volleyball, a giant chess set, a garden, and the funicular stops right at the hotel to take you up the Cardada Cimetta mountain.
Next time we would like to go to the Brissago Islands and see the botanic garden as well as the Falconeria. We just didn’t have enough time on our little weekend getaway.
Any Day Now
I can’t believe this baby is coming any day now. We will go from a family of 4 to a family of 5. My parents are coming to visit on the baby’s due date for one week. It also happens to be the girls’ two week autumn school holiday, which is great timing, hopefully. And my husband’s paternity leave is still yet to be determined as to when he takes it. I imagine we will see how the delivery goes and how the baby is doing before scheduling holidays for his leave. Although I’ve mentally planned it all out…
So the girls will be able to spend time with my parent’s without school and all the activities and just relax all together and meet this new little member of our family. I still wonder what changes this new addition will make to our family. But just like when we had our first child, and our second child, love knows no bounds and suddenly you are capable of loving another person with just as much love as you never thought possible. Here’s hoping!
