Seattle day trip
My main goal when visiting my family on their farm this summer was to stay on the farm. Sounds obvious, right? But I really wanted to relax, watch the girls run around, and not mess around with Seattle traffic and driving. This European lifestyle makes public transportation and walking around so easy. I felt a bit tired of driving around last summer and promised myself this summer would be much more local.
So when one of my dearest friends invited us to see him in the Seattle Opera, we made a wonderful day trip out of Seattle.
My friend chose his favorite brunch place right near the Seattle Opera, Toulouse Petit Kitchen & Lounge. It’s a huge space on a large corner of Lower Queen Anne. The waitress gave the girls coloring papers and crayons right away. Phew. We had beignets for the table, I got the crab eggs benedict, my Dad got the pork cheeks, and my friend got a croque madame. The girls got pancakes shaped like a gigantic Mickey Mouse. Not sure they noticed, but we all thought it was cute. It’s a nice place to eat before the opera or Teatro Zinzanni.
After brunch we headed to Seattle Center. It was more kid friendly than I remember. Or maybe I haven’t taken the kids before? Our first stop was at a fountain (it’s a wading pool if my girls have anything to say about it). Then we went to the Seattle Center Fountain, which is also probably more of a sculpture type feature than a sprinkler, but my girls loved it. They danced to the music and ran around, giving my friend and I plenty of time to chat. Next, he took us to the playground at the Experience Music Project. This playground is brand new and amazing. I think it’s more of an older kids playground, but there is a little something for all age groups.
After getting all their wiggles out, we took the girls to the Seattle Opera House to pick out their intermission meal. I know, fancy! It is so much fun to order our food together ahead of time and have a table all set when we arrive at intermission. After we picked out our intermission lunches we grabbed booster cushions for the girls. I noticed some other patrons with their own personal booster cushions they brought from home, super cute.Hadley laughed throughout the opera and could not stop talking about the story line all the way home. She thought Rossini’s Count Ory was hilarious. When we arrived in Zürich later that next week, she told her Dad the whole opera as well and as crazy as it sounded I had to agree she was pretty spot on. Heike slept through some of the first half, got herself some energy during the intermission lunch, then watched the second half. She is not too much for chatting so I am not sure about her opera synopsis.Sometimes traveling home for the summer is logistically stressful. I want to see everyone, I want to be on holiday, I want everything all at once. Which ends up making me just want to sit and have coffee at the farm and watch the girls be girls. All I can do is my best and sometimes that is just to relax and enjoy where I am and watch the girls run on the farm. But this one Sunday, we had a really wonderful day trip in Seattle. Thank you Dustin.
