Day Trip To Smilestones With SBB RailAway

We love to take day trips as a family. And our favorite way to travel is by train. So when SBB RailAway and Smilestones sent us tickets for our whole family to take a day trip to Rhinefalls and check out Smilestones, we were very excited. Rhinefalls is a great tourist spot in Switzerland that we take visitors to a few times a year. It’s one of our favorite day trips.

Taking The Train

I absolutely love traveling Switzerland by train. First, I don’t have to drive, so I can focus on my three kids and even possibly my husband! Second, there are toilets! When our kids have to go, they have to go! And third, the family play carriage. We love finding the family carriage when getting on the train. It’s painted like a jungle on the outside of the train which makes it easy to find. And inside there are slides and a safe place for kids to play while we travel.

The train from Zurich HB to Neuhausen Rhinefall is 50 minutes nonstop. This makes it a very easy day trip, especially with kids. The best part is this is a day trip for any age or skill level. The train dropped us off at Neuhausen Rhinefall. From there we walked a few minutes to the famous largest waterfall in Europe, the Rhine Falls.

Smilestones

Then we took the kids to Smilestones, the largest indoor miniature world in Switzerland. This is a quick and easy stop before hopping back on the train. There are bathrooms, a cafe, and a great gift shop with a Brio train for kids to play with. We stayed at Smilestones for about 30 minutes. It’s such a cute mini version of Switzerland with plenty of buttons for toddlers and kids to push and see the model trains or lights move. The best part is that Smilestones, Rhinefalls, and the Neuhausen Rhinefalls train station is within steps of each other. Making this the ultimate easy day trip.
