My Five Month Old
Oh Baby!
How is my baby five months old already? He is growing up so quickly and time is passing by at record speed. It’s only a few more weeks until he is eating at the table with us. He is officially sitting up on his own. He loves seeing himself in a mirror and loves when his sisters surprise him.
Five months old might be the most amazing age of a baby. I absolutely loved every second until now. He is just the sweetest smiling baby. But now, at five months old, he is sitting, grabbing, and is so interested in everything. He makes serious eye contact with us and looks for his sisters all the time. His whole body gets excited and he squeals when he sees them. But, every month after this will be all about him eating, crawling, and becoming a toddler! I want him to still be a newborn! Every moment is so exciting now. Even the girls tell me something new about him every single say. “He’s grabbing his feet now Mom!” “He’s never done that before!”
Milestones
While we were in London I had my coffee spilled onto my lap for the first time with this little baby. He grabbed my coffee cup and the next thing I knew we were both soaked. Don’t worry, it was Mom temperature…He is starting to grab the butter knives on the table and drop them on the floor. We have started giving him a stick of carrot, apple, or cucumber to just learn to hold things in his hands and watch him try to bring them to his mouth. So far it is far more fun than achieving any nutrients.
We put the Stokke Tripp Trapp together this month and started bringing him to the table during meal times. So far, so good. We can’t wait to start him on some baby led weaning and purees in April.
Teething
One Monday morning my perfectly scheduled baby was fussy for a minute or two (My sweet neighbor gave me a book by Gina Ford that saved me. Let me know if you need info on it). My friend came over and I told her I thought he was all out of sorts and teething. She ran to the apoteke (pharmacy) and came back with a 50 franc amber teething necklace. (That’s expensive, right?!) Now, if you know the size of our tiny local apoteke, they hardly have anything, so this amber necklace means this is the go to item for teething. Needless to say, he has worn it nonstop ever since. I am not sure if he is teething or not, nor if the necklace is having any effect. But I feel like he is wearing something people use here with regularity, so it has to be good.
Travel
Liam has traveled to Oman, UAE, England, and Portugal. In his fifth month he will see the Netherlands. We took a fun day trip to Arosa with almost 5 hours of train travel in one day for a bit of skiing. He was fantastic on the train and got to relax in the restaurant while the girls and I skiied. Our fingers are crossed for the short flight to the Netherlands this week.
Next Month
In April he goes for his six month check up and third round of vaccines. I really hope he is not in as much pain as he was for his four month check up. Poor kiddo. Any recommendations for how to calm a baby down after shots?
In April he turns six months old! I’m really excited for him to eat with us at the table and to see him love all the fruit and vegetables just like the rest of us. I don’t know what foods to start with. Any recommendations? Do you have a favorite book, food blog, mommy blog, or any personal advice?
